Homeless Shelter Site Secured Thanks to Local Partnership

BRIAR CREEK — A long-planned homeless shelter in the Greater Berwick Area is moving forward after local partners saved the project. Community Strategies Group closed on a 3-acre site near Briar Creek Plaza on June 17.

The deal was nearly lost due to a delayed state grant. The Community Giving Foundation: Berwick stepped up with $118,890, and the Columbia County Housing Authority provided additional support.

The shelter will serve individuals and families using a non-congregate model. It’s expected to open in fall 2026.  Partners include The Gatehouse Shelter, Agape, and Beyond Violence. More updates will be shared on Facebook.
