SUNBURY – A special holiday train ride raises funds for a Sunbury playground. Fort Discovery’s Holiday Express Train Rides return for another year.
Fran Zartman, co-coordinator for Fort Discovery sets the scene for the train ride, “It’s decorated in white lights and it really is enchanting. You’ve got music, holiday music and there’s a little kerosene heaters at both ends of the coaches to warm up the coach and it adds an ambience to things. It’s just lovely.”
During the ride, volunteers read ‘The Polar Express’ and at the end of the story, some very special guests appear, “When the story comes to an end, the train comes to a stop and we have an exciting moment when that man in the red suit appears and he walks through the train and he sees everybody, young and old, and says hello.”
Santa will be joined by Frosty, Rudolph and others. Rides will take place Friday, December 4 at 5p.m, 7p.m and 9p.m and Sunday, December 6 at noon, 2p.m, 4p.m and 6p.m. Tickets are $10 each and children under 2 ride for free. Tickets can be picked up at BB&T on North Fourth Street in Sunbury or by calling 570-286-2764.
