LEWISBURG – The Union County Historical Society holds a presentation on pretzels, history, and a family legacy this weekend. This Sunday at 1pm, ‘Twisted: Mindful Pretzel Consumption,’ will be held at The Gallery on North Water Street in Lewisburg.
Jill Marie Thomas, the great-great-granddaughter of Julius Sturgis—founder of America’s first pretzel bakery—will share how her family’s legacy shaped Pennsylvania’s pretzel industry. She says Lancaster County and south-central Pennsylvania is known as the birthplace of the modern pretzel.
Jill, a co-owner of Tom Sturgis Pretzels, will dive into the fascinating evolution of pretzel baking from the mid-1800s to today. The program will also include a hands-on pretzel twisting activity, followed by a book signing. More info at www.unioncopahistory.com
