Hiking trail slated to open in July

montour co FEATDANVILLE – A six mile hiking trail in Montour County will open this summer. The North Branch Canal Trail will run from Danville to Catawissa when it is completed in July. At their meeting Tuesday, Montour County commissioners approved a loan of $118, 500 from FNB Bank for the project.

Bob Stoudt, executive director of MARC, said the money from the loan will be used to pay to rehabilitate and complete the 6.2 mile trail. A grant coming through Susquehanna Greenways Partnership will then reimburse the county.

Stoudt said bids for the construction work will be awarded in May and work is slated for completion in mid-July. The first .4 miles of the North Branch Canal Trail opened last October.
