Health experts: Enjoy ‘springing forward’

sunriseSUNBURY — Did you arrive anywhere an hour late today? This is the first day of Daylight Saving time, and lots of people might be a little sleepy. Some advice for coping with the change…Weis Markets Registered Dietitians Beth Stark and Kathryn Long  say getting good quality sleep is key.

Long says, “As it gets closer to bed time, turn the lights down in the house.  Light is a really big indicator for our internal clock in our body for when to wake up and when to fall asleep.  Try to set the lights dimmer for night time, and then in the morning, it is going to be darker when we wake up, so turn the lights on to help yourself wake up.”

They recommend putting your cell phone at the other end of the room so you aren’t tempted to look at your phone in the middle of the night or just before bed, which can make it harder to fall asleep.  Stark and Long were guests on WKOK Sunrise Wednesday.  You can hear more tips for a healthy lifestyle by downloading the program here.  (Codi Jade)
