Gov. Wolf talks budget realities

WolfHARRISBURG — Lines are being drawn in Harrisburg the fight over the state budget. Governor Tom Wolf says, with a budget deficit of $2.3 billion, the state is going to take a hard look at new revenue, “We’re at the point where we’ve run out of games. There are no more one-time fixes. We really have to address the fact that we’re spending more than we bring in.”

Lawmakers must pass a balanced budget later this summer. That will require some combination of funding cuts and revenue increases. Gov. Wolf told our correspondent Brad Christman that he doesn’t want to pass a tax increase, but if it is necessary, it should be “reasonable and responsible.”

Christman interviewed the governor this week and we are airing excerpts of that interview on WKOK Sunrise. We’ll air a new segment each weekday morning and then we’ll post the entire interview at WKOK.com. (Jennifer Wakeman)
