COAL TOWNSHIP – The expansion and renovation project of Geisinger Shamokin Hospital’s Emergency Room is entering its final phase and its entrance will reopen soon. Hospital officials announced Thursday the ER’s entrance will reopen later this month.

The ER entrance had been temporarily relocated to the hospital’s main entrance in the spring to accommodate construction. The ER has and will remain open throughout the project.

Once the $10 million multiphase project is complete, the ER will have doubled in size, expanding to nearly 11,000 square feet, with 19 private exam areas. Neighboring laboratory and imaging areas will also expand, including a new computer CT machine.
