DANVILLE – Geisinger Medical Center pediatric nurse Cassie Thomas was recognized Thursday for helping to save a teens life. 15-year-old Cameron Poimboeuf of Charlotte, North Carolina was on vacation last week in Clearwater, Florida when he was struck by lightning. The teen was unconscious when Thomas saw him and immediately started chest compressions and CPR.
Thomas was assisted by another man who arrived to help and an off-duty police officer. They continued CPR until paramedics arrived. Poimboeuf was in critical condition, but has since made a full recovery. Thomas said she was just in the right place at the right time and doesn’t consider herself a hero. The nurse from Hazleton was recognized at a ceremony Thursday at Geisinger Medical Center in Danville, where she works. (Ali Stevens)
