DANVILLE — Geisinger is cutting nearly 100 positions from its Geisinger Health Plan as part of a restructuring effort to address ongoing financial challenges. In a message to employees Tuesday, Geisinger President and CEO Dr. Terry Gilliland said the layoffs are limited to the health plan and do not impact other areas of the system.
He noted that Geisinger is currently hiring for about 2,500 positions systemwide and expects many affected workers to transition into new roles. The health plan reported a $231 million operating loss last year and continues to operate at a deficit. Rising drug costs and low Medicare reimbursements were cited as key factors.
