SUNBURY – Work on Phase Two of the Chestnut Street project may be delayed. Sunbury City councilman Jim Eister tells WKOK they are still working on funding for part of the project and that will likely push construction off until spring of 2017.
In January, $750,000 was awarded for the infrastructure portion of Phase Two which includes improvements to water and sewer lines. Eister says they still need approximately $1.1 million for sidewalks, curbs and lighting. Funding awards are not expected to be announced until mid-summer of this year, which does not allow enough time to complete the bid process and begin work.
Eister added there are a number of factors at work, but as of now, Chestnut Street will remain open through 2016.
