NORTHUMBERLAND – A well known businessman and attorney has died. Fred Kessler, founder and President of Nottingham Village, died Wednesday evening from an aggressive form of cancer, his family tells us.  Kessler was 78.

One of Kessler’s biggest accomplishments was opening Nottingham Village in 1977, opening it as a nursing center. The retirement village has vastly grown since then, recently opening a brand new Alzheimer’s and dementia center in January. Kessler, of Lewisburg,  was a resident of Nottingham at the time of his death.

Kessler was also an attorney and served on the board for Northumberland National Bank and Evangelical Community Hospital. He was a Bucknell graduate and an avid pilot, known for flights around the world. He received an FAA Wright Brothers Master Pilot Award.

Kessler is survived by his wife Virginia, as well as his daughter, Amanda and her husband, and his grandson.
