Foxtrot 5K coming up Saturday

mallSELINSGROVE — You can run around the mall this weekend — literally.  The Foxtrot 5K is Saturday at the Susquehanna Valley Mall.  Cassie Oelberg from Selinsgrove is the event organizer.  She says the run benefits ovarian cancer research.

“I lost my mom almost two years ago to ovarian cancer.  I decided last year, since we lost her March 20, that the Saturday closest to that day we would hold a 5K,” Oelberg said.  “Unfortunately with ovarian cancer, there is no method for early detection.  Knowing the signs is essential.  With the research we are hoping to cure more women.”

Registration starts at 8:00a.m. Saturday at the Courtyard Theater.  “There will be some entertainment and some speaking about ovarian cancer.  Then at 9:00a.m. we’ll go outside and do an inner loop of the mall, an outer loop, then another inner loop and we’ll be done,” she said.  “There will be snacks and drinks there and there will be prizes for the top runners in multiple categories.”

This is the second annual Foxtrot 5K.  Last year’s run raised over $2,000 for ovarian cancer research.  You can learn more by searching Foxtrot 5K for Ovarian Cancer on Facebook.  You can also register at www.active.com.  Oelberg was on WKOK Sunrise Thursday.  You can listen to the program at WKOK.com.  (Codi Jade)
