Former prison guard begins state prison sentence

northumberlandcourthouse-300x225SUNBURY — A former Northumberland County Prison guard has begun serving a state prison sentence.  PennLive.com reports 45-year-old Kazimir Grohowski of Mount Carmel was re-sentenced Monday to 2 to 4 years in state prison, the same sentence he received in 2009.

Grohowski filed a series of appeals keeping him out of prison for several years, but the appeals process ended with denials from both the state Superior Court and the state Supreme Court.

Grohowski and six other guards were charged in 2004, following an investigation into offenses committed at the Northumberland County Prison between 2000 and 2002.  In September 2006, a jury found Grohowski guilty of delivery of contraband to an inmate.  He was acquitted of a charge of aggravated assault against an inmate.

Grohowski is the only one of the guards to go to prison.  (Ali Stevens)
