SUNBURY – A former Northumberland County Commissioner and candidate for state Senate has died. 76-year-old John Boback of Elysburg died Saturday.
Boback was appointed as a county commissioner in 1993 and after serving a year term, ran for a seat in the state Senate. He was unsuccessful in his bid for Senate, but remained active in local politics. Boback served on the Northumberland County Planning Commission, the Northumberland County Industrial Development Authority, the Brush Valley Chamber of Commerce and other boards.
A memorial service will be held at noon Wednesday at the Stephen A. Chowka Funeral Home in Shamokin. Visitation is from 10 to noon, prior to the service. (Ali Stevens)
