SUNBURY – Shikellamy teachers are going back to school on the subject of school safety. Board of education President Wendy Wiest announced Thursday night that the March 13 in-service day will be spent with area law enforcement officers.
Wiest said, “Some of the things they are going to go over are the initial threat assessment, when to call the police and how to call the police.”
Participating officers include police chiefs from Point Township, Sunbury and Northumberland as well as Trooper Rick Blair, information officer for the state police in Milton. Wiest expects the day to be fully interactive with breakout sessions for staff from each of the six buildings.
The school district came under fire from both police and parents for its handling of an incident last fall involving a pellet gun carried onto school property by two unknown individuals. (Jennifer Wakeman)
