DANVILLE – A three-day camp for kids will focus on fire safety. The Montour Area Fire Departments will host the camp August 10 through 12. Mahoning Township fire chief Leslie Young says the camp is for kids ages 6 to 14, “Six to nine year olds, we focus more on safety and a little bit about what firefighters do. With the ten to fourteen year olds, we have the idea in mind that hopefully, maybe when they turn 14 we can recruit them as volunteers. We do a little more hands-on and more involved activities of what firefighters actually do.”
Young says recruiting new volunteers is a high priority for all fire companies, “Our average is probably between 35 and 40 so, we’re always trying to recruit younger people because we can’t do this forever.”
The camp is free and will be held at the Danville Middle School. Parents are welcome to attend the camp with their kids. You can register online here.
