SHAMOKIN – A home where a meth lab was found by police last week was destroyed by fire Monday night. The home is located at 26 E. Sunbury Street, which is Route 61. The fire started around 8 p.m. and went to three alarms, with damage reported to neighboring homes. Six residents in the neighboring homes were displaced by the fire.
Route 61 was closed from Route 125 to East Ninth Street, while firefighters battled the blaze. Firefighters were on the scene for several hours bringing that fire under control. Route 61 has reopened this morning. One firefighter was treated for burns to his face at the scene.
Officials say the fire originated in the home where 32-year-old April Weit and 33-year-old Joshua Reichenbach were arrested for a suspected meth lab on the premises. The house was condemned by state police on Friday. (Ali Stevens)
