NORTHUMBERLAND – Fire destroyed a garage and damaged a home on Sunday afternoon in Northumberland. The fire started around 3:30 p.m. on Brickyard Avenue near Wallace Street. The garage was located to the rear of 448 Orange Street.
Neighbors reported hearing an explosion and investigators say they found a propane tank had exploded in the fire. Two sheds also caught on fire. Firefighters from Northumberland, Point Township, Upper Augusta Township, Sunbury and Shamokin Dam responded.
Fire chief Brian Crebs says they were able to bring the fire under control, but the garage was destroyed and a nearby home had damage to the siding. The owner of the garage was James Derr. The owner of the home was Karl Kerry. There were no injuries and a cause for the fire is not known. (Ali Stevens)
