HUMMELS WHARF – Fire heavily damaged a barn in Hummels Wharf this morning. The fire started around 8 a.m. at 183 Shaffer Lane near Park Road in Monroe Township. The owner of the barn is Lavere Stump.
He tells us he saw smoke just before 8 a.m. and called 911, “I just seen smoke coming out and realized something was wrong and ran up there. I got my tractor out of the way but I didn’t get the chance to get anything else out.”
The barn was filled with straw and hay. A hay-baler was destroyed in the fire. Deputy Fire Chief John Grove of the Hummels Wharf Fire Company was one of the first on the scene, “It was already well-involved when we got here. We just started putting water on it as soon as we could.”
A cause of the fire is not yet known. No injuries were reported. (Ali Stevens/Matt Catrillo)
