COAL TOWNSHIP – Eight people are homeless after fire destroyed a double home in Coal Township. The fire started around 10 a.m. at 1117 and 1119 Tioga Street. When firefighters arrived, the homes were fully engulfed in flames.
Three firefighters were treated at the scene for minor injuries. Neighboring homes sustained heat damage. It took about 45 minutes to bring the fire under control. The News Item reports the families of Robert Casner and Daniel Boyd were not at home at the time of the fire.
The Red Cross is assisting those families with temporary shelter. Fire officials are investigating what caused the fire. (Ali Stevens)
