Fire Companies Dispatched to Brush Fire on Columbia County Mountain

COLUMBIA COUNTY  — WBRE is reporting… Multiple volunteer fire companies were dispatched after a brush fire in Columbia County Friday afternoon.  Columbia County Emergency Management said there was a brush fire at the intersection of Beaver Valley Road and Mountain Road just after 4:30 p.m.

According to Main Township Volunteer Fire Company, when on-scene crews observed a large brush fire at the top of the mountain, and immediately requested four brush trucks and three tankers.

The crews finally got to the fire an hour after being on-scene due to it being in such a remote area and were able to start getting water on it to be contained.  UTVs were then dispatched from multiple agencies due to the steep incline of the mountain.

Officials say members grabbed tools from the brush trucks and UTVs then made the two mile hike up the mountain to battle the fire.  Officials say the file doubled in size every 30 minutes before being contained just after 9:00 p.m. where it was handed over to DCNR.
