MOUNT CARMEL – A borough fire chief was injured Monday afternoon at a Mount Carmel blaze. According to The News Item, Fire Chief James Reed of the American Hose and Chemical Fire Company was carried from the burning home unconscious. Reed was reportedly conscious and talking by the time he was loaded into Life Flight. Family members say he is being transported to Lehigh Valley Burn Unit for burns in his airway.
Reed was first loaded into an ambulance which took him to the Life Flight helicopter at the Mount Carmel High School. Firefighters continue to battle the fire which started at 217 South Walnut Street and has reportedly spread to neighboring structures. All residents are said to have been able to evacuate safely.
