Felony charges for mother of 4-year-old son

WATSONTOWN – A Columbia County woman faces felony charges of resisting arrest and being ‘under the influence’ while she was around her four-year-old son. Watsontown Police say they arrested 32-year-old Kara Kinney of Benton Tuesday at 1100 Main Street in Watsontown.

Officers say Kinney was suspected to be under the influence of a controlled substance when she dropped off, and later picked up, her four-year-old son.   When advised she was under arrest, Kinney actively resisted arrest, leading to the charges of assault of an officer. She was eventually taken into custody and admitted to smoking marijuana due to anxiety.

Kinney is charged with a felony count of aggravated assault and a misdemeanor count of attempted endangering the welfare of children and other charges. She was arraigned by Magisterial District Judge Michael Diehl and committed to the Centre County Prison in lieu of $40,000 cash bail.
