SUNBURY– Residents will have an opportunity to voice their concerns about the effects of the southern section of the CSVT within the ash basin focus area in Snyder County. PennDOT will be hosting a public hearing with the United States Army Corps of Engineers June 21 to focus on the environment assessment of the ash basin area.

Matt Beck, Assistant Plans Engineer for PennDOT says the environmental assessment is now available for public review, “The environmental assessment evaluates how the alternative to avoid the ash basin impacts socio-economic, cultural and natural resources. So things like streams and wetlands, any historic properties or archeological areas, communities and residential areas.”

PennDOT’s preferred alternative passes around the ash basins to the east and south and ties into the proposed alignment at Fisher Road and at Sunbury Road.

Beck says noise impacts continue to be a top concern for nearby residents that will be addressed at the hearing, “The noise impacts are definitely an issue that we’re going to revisit in more detail during final design of the project. We’ve done a preliminary analysis to date but we’ll go through a final noise study and ultimately coordinate with the community, specifically on what the anticipated noise levels are and where noise barriers can be installed.”

The hearing begins at 5 pm at Shikellamy High School. Project plans will be displayed beginning at 4 pm.  For those wish to make a testimony you can do so at the public meeting or written comments can be emailed to CSVTSupplemental EA@skellyloy.com.
