BURNSIDE — East Cameron Township Supervisor Norman Foura attended Monday’s Anthracite Outdoor Adventure Area (AOAA) Authority meeting to request a temporary road for emergency vehicles during the closure of Route 125 in June. According to the News Item Foura, who was joined by several volunteer firefighters, said the upcoming placement of a culvert underneath the state highway at the park’s trailhead would cause a 20-to-30-minute delay in emergency vehicles from the Shamokin area reaching his community. Authority Director Barry Yorwarth said funds were not provided to build a temporary road, which would have been required to meet PennDOT specifications. He added that the authority looked into whether a “pushed-in path” near the trailhead could be used by first responders, but there was concern about the road conditions. The PennDot permit allows for the road to be closed for no longer than three weeks but weather could be a factor. Foura asked the authority for advance notice when the road would be closed to emergency vehicles.
