Early weather warning systems installed in Snyder County

Snyder_County,_Pennsylvania_CourthouseSELINGROVE – Snyder County is taking a proactive approach to dealing with severe weather. The Snyder County Local Emergency Planning Committee is providing early weather warning systems to seven facilities around the county.

The devices will give facilities time to prepare for severe weather such as thunderstorms, tornadoes, flooding or winter storms. They are wireless, radio activated and receive alerts from the Snyder County EMA.

Derick Shambach, Snyder County Emergency Management Coordinator says the systems will be installed at Selinsgrove and Midd-West school districts, Beacon Light Behavioral Health Systems, Brookdale at Grayson View, Manor at Penn Village, Selinsgrove Center, and Conewago Snyder-Firetree.

The LEPC purchased the early warning systems with money from chemical and planning fees collected by the county. The program may be expanded to other facilities in Snyder County if it proves successful. (Jennifer Wakeman)
