COAL TOWNSHIP – A Northumberland County doctor charged with DUI has been denied an appeal by the Pennsylvania Supreme Court. Raymond Kraynak was found guilty of DUI and sentenced to 6 months in prison and 30 days on house arrest with an electronic monitor. Kraynak appealed the conviction, but the Supreme Court upheld the conviction.
Police say Kraynak stopped his vehicle before entering a sobriety check in Coal Township in May of 2012. At trial, Kraynak claimed he didn’t see two large reflective signs alerting motorists of the checkpoint. Kraynak walked up to police officers at the checkpoint and said, “I’m here to help”, offering his services as a doctor, because he thought there was an accident.
Police say Kraynak was intoxicated and did a field sobriety test. When police asked for a blood test, Kraynak refused. The District Attorney says refusal of a blood test results in a driver’s license suspension for one year. Kraynak must now begin serving is jail sentence. (Ali Stevens)
