WILLIAMSPORT – Little Shamokin Creek, and Limestone Run, both Northumberland County streams, will be flowing a little cleaner after this summer. The DEP has announced eleven partners taking part in stream restoration efforts in north-central Pennsylvania. The eleven partners, including the Northumberland, Snyder Union and Montour County Conservation Districts, will work with the DEP to restore streams across the central part of the state.
Projects include new fencing, stream stabilization work, buffers and more. The DEP’s Growing Greener grant program awarded $273,000 in January to complete the work over a two-year period and the projects will begin on April 13.
In our area, stream restoration work will be done on Limestone Run and Little Shamokin Creek in Northumberland County, Middle Creek in Snyder County, Turtle Creek in Union County and Limestone Run and Mauses Creek in Montour County. The first project of 17 will be along Carpenter’s Run in Lycoming County. (Ali Stevens)
