SUNBURY — An investigation into prison fire allegations has concluded. According to District Attorney Ann Targonski, there is no credible evidence to support an inmate’s claims that the Northumberland County Prison fire was an act of arson.
Following the blaze, a county inmate said the fire was started by employees and other inmates. County detective Degg Stark and state police fire marshal Kirk Renn conducted an investigation. Targonski says, “Although he provided multiple names, those individuals have not corroborated his statement in any manner. Despite the inmate’s claims, the investigators did not find credible evidence that the fire was of suspicious origin.”
The cause is still under investigation. It is known that the fire started in an area above the left wing between two roofs. Targonski says, “This area is inaccessible and it is not believed that anyone was in the area on the day of the fire.” No criminal charges are anticipated. (Codi Jade)
