Culver won a special election January 31 to replace former state senator John Gordner, who resigned to become counsel in the office of Senate President Pro Tempore Kim Ward. Culver defeated Democrat Patricia Lawton of Columbia County in the special election.

“Today is a very exciting day. I was working in the house up until about midnight last night. Today it feels like starting s new job, a fresh start, but today is all about the people of the 27th district and I have a lot of people with me today and I couldn’t have done this without them,” Culver said.

A top legislative priority for Senator Culver is making kidney donations easier, after having received a kidney two years ago, “There are three pieces of legislation that would make to easier for someone to donate a kidney without penalty, without future repercussions in their insurance. I’m hoping to work with my colleagues in the Senate and House to get that passed this year.”

Culver wants to remind residents of the 108th Legislative District they still have access to state government services, even though she was sworn in as the new state senator.
