SUNBURY- Thanks for your tireless volunteerism…so said State Representative Lynda Schlegel Culver (R-108th, Sunbury) when she spoke at the Sunbury Firemen’s banquet and praised them for their consistent hard work, especially at the recent Northumberland County Prison fire.
She says, “What struck me the most was, before anybody could think or before people were actually coming on the scene, there were fire trucks all over the place. Up one-way streets, from all directions, were fire trucks from all companies within the city. But what you did not get to see that I get to see, you just experience and think it’s normal, was how well you work together. It was automatic, everybody had a job to do and it just did it.”
Schlegel Culver also discussed some of the bills that have been passed within the past year that involved firefighters, “Last year, we passed the tax reform code, which exempted volunteer fire companies from the reality transfer tax. We updated the Volunteer Loan Assistance program by increasing the loan amounts and payback theory. We authorized two or more fire companies that show share relief associations, to each send a dually elected delicate to represent their company, and had their expenses paid for with the relief funds.”
