MAHONING TOWNSHIP – The first section of a new hiking trail opened in Montour County Thursday. Montour Area Recreation Commission (MARC) cut the ribbon on a .4 mile section of the North Branch Canal Trail.
About 50 people turned out for the opening ceremony including Montour and Columbia County commissioners and State Sen. John Gordner (R-27th). Bob Stoudt, executive director of MARC, said the project was the result of a decade-long collaboration between public and private organizations.
