PENN TOWNSHIP, SNYDER COUNTY -Volunteer fire fighters made a quick stop and halted a fast moving blaze inside the Salem Lutheran Church near Selinsgrove Monday morning.
A dozen fire companies from Snyder, Union and Northumberland County were involved in the firefight. The apparently electrical fire spread to the interior and basement of the building.
The fire chief and pastor said the church was saved from destruction, but the interior of the sanctuary, and the basement, were heavily damaged. The pastor Kristina Schaeffer said they do not yet know where they will hold Easter services.
The church on Salem Church Road caught fire around 10am. The fire went to two alarms. There were no reports of any injuries.
Crews from New Berlin, Middleburg, Kreamer, Shamokin Dam, Fremont, Sunbury, Northumberland, and Hummels Wharf helped Selinsgrove crews.
