LEWISBURG – Fire crews were able to quickly respond to and extinguish a house fire in downtown Lewisburg early Thursday morning.
William Cameron Engine Company Fire Chief Jamie Blount says the fire was first reported around 5:40 a.m. Thursday at 109 South Sixth Street. He says a second alarm was called upon crews’ arrival, when they encountered smoke coming from the home. Blount says they located the fire in the attic and extinguished it within 20 minutes.
He says the home was occupied at the time, residents got out safely and no injuries were reported among residents or firefighters. A state police fire marshal is investigating the cause but it appears to be accidental.
Blount says firefighters remind residents to check their smoke detectors to ensure they are working order and placed in the home properly.
