Couple Charged for Fleeing with Children in Vehicle

SHAMOKIN  — is reporting… Three people were charged after they drove at high speeds through Shamokin with three young children.  23-year-old Darwin Sanchez of Shamokin was pulled over on March 13 after a police officer observed him traveling at a high rate of speed and going through several stop signs.

Sanchez had several passengers in his vehicle, including three young children and 22-year-old Savanna Johnson of Coal Township, according to the affidavit.  Shamokin Police said one child was properly restrained in a car seat, but two other young children were not.

Sanchez said the group was fleeing from Johnson’s mother Rachelle N. Polischeck. When police made contact with the woman, she told them Sanchez and Johnson were on the run from Children and Youth Services and she was attempting to stop them.

Sanchez and Polischeck were charged with felony counts of endangering the welfare of children and related traffic summaries. Johnson was charged with misdemeanor endangering the welfare of children. Johnson has a preliminary hearing set for June 18 at the office of District Judge William Zalinski.
