County housing authority given $750,000 grant to fight blight

SUNBURY – The Housing Authority of Northumberland County was given a significant amount of grant money to continue its fight against blight in the county. During its public meeting Tuesday, the Northumberland County Commissioners ratified a $750,000 Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program grant.

In an update to commissioners, the housing authority says there are three properties under contract in Mount Carmel Township. The authority also says it has spoken with the Borough of Kulpmont to address a problem group of properties it wishes to address.

The authority has also shown interest in addressing a severely blighted property in Snydertown, as well as a property in Zerbe Township. The authority also continues to talk to Shamokin, Coal Township, and Mount Carmel officials about blighted properties to address.
