Conference focuses on opportunities for Snyder County youth

FEAT_GENERIC_NEWSSELINSGROVE – Providing positive social opportunities for Snyder County youth was the focus of a conference Thursday. The Snyder County Coalition for Kids held their annual conference at Susquehanna University.

Community mobilizer, Kelly Feiler says, “This is our signature day where we bring everybody in the community together, because Snyder County is our coalition for kids. We address the two school districts’ PAYS surveys which is the Pennsylvania Youth Surveys, the data we collect from the schools that tells what the kids in the county are worried about.”

The Coalition’s current priorities are to prevent drug abuse and antisocial behavior, and to provide positive social opportunities. Feiler says a regional engagement ceneter will help organize the community, “We have lots of different resources in Snyder County, but we need to regionalize them. Which is the idea behind the regional engagement center, which is going to be our big push for the new year, coming up with some sort of community center.”

The Coalition’s mission is to promote youth development and prevent dependency through a county-wide collaboration. (Sarah Benek)
