SUNBURY — The transition of the Northumberland County 911 Center has been moving slowly, being severely underfunded. Commissioner Rick Shoch provided an update after Tuesday’s County Commissioners meeting. Shoch says the process was been put off too long. He says the prior administration cut costs that led to not as many towers being installed in as many of the locations as needed.
Shoch says the prior administration was under pressure to do so. “We do know that when the prior administration left there was an unfunded portion of that project that equaled to A $1 million to a $1 million and a half that they left. They considered taking a bond out and they didn’t do it,” he said.
Shoch says multiple meetings have taken place the last few months to fix the issue, and everything’s moving in the right direction. “We’re working with them now. They’re identifying some other tower locations where there are existing towers where we could acquire space on. Then we’re looking at the cost of some of the additional equipment that’ll have to be hung on those,” he said.
Shoch anticipates there will be a proposal with costs to finish the project in the next few weeks. (Matt Catrillo)
