SUNBURY – Northumberland County Commissioner Kymberly Best is trying to be the ‘voice of reason’ in the county prison building fee Coal Township dispute. First of all, she says was never included in any of these discussions, “This should’ve been an executive session, where discussions should’ve been held by all three of us. That’s not the case. This decision was made by the two majority commissioners, without my knowledge. So, I take exception to that.”
Commissioner Best says strongly disagrees with the practice of suing your neighbor, “Even if you think you win, you lose, because we’re suing our neighbors; we’re suing our taxpayers and there’s no winner in that. That’s an increased cost that, quite frankly, Northumberland County can’t afford.”
Best, who has been opposed to this prison project from the beginning, says we’re in it now, we should work together with the township as best as we can because it’s their police, EMT, and services in general that they will be using throughout the construction and beyond, Coal Township is being burdened by putting this large project there. There’s going to be increased security costs for their police department. There’s going to be incurred EMS calls by having a prison there.”
Northumberland County Communications told WKOK that there was an incident at the prison site Wednesday that involved a tractor-trailer accident. No one was injured but Coal Township police and EMTs were called to the scene and had to deal with the response. (Chris Elio)
