LEWISBURG – The Borough of Lewisburg is moving forward with a more efficient way to communicate with residents. The borough is launching a new CodeRED emergency notifications system. Borough Community Development Grant Manager Shannon Berkey, “To provide them up to date event information or also, the most important, is to give you emergency notifications…if streets are closed, if you’re going to start to be inconvenienced by a flooding situation, and also its tied right into the emergency weather notification system.”
Berkey says residents are signing up now, “On your mobile device, text Lewisburg PA to 99411 and you will immediately get a link, or you can visit the Lewisburg Borough website and there’s a link right there on the home page.”
Berkey says CodeRED is also available for landline calls and emails. Residents are also encouraged to create an account at sign-up to have the ability to make edits to receiving notifications later.
Then at the end of this month or beginning of April, Berkey says a siren system will be installed, “That will actually have the ability to project and talk to the residents thorough the loud speakers. They’ll be located in four different convenient locations throughout the borough so that the whole radius is covered.”
Berkey says the sirens would only be used in the event of an emergency.
