SUNBURY – A former Northumberland County commissioner spoke out against recent hiring in the probation department. Vinny Clausi railed against commissioners and Northumberland County President Judge Charles Saylor for re-hiring Esther Rhodes.
Clausi objected Tuesday to Rhodes’ rehiring after she successfully sued the county for wrongful termination in 2013, “And I understand that she’s coming back and she’s getting $8,000 increase. Somebody who sued the county and we gonna allow these people to come back to the county and be double dipping.”
The salary board approved a salary increase for probation supervisors to $50,000 on March 22. Chief Clerk Maryrose McCarthy told Clausi the pay increase was for three positions and one of those, now filled by Rhodes, was vacant at the time of the salary board meeting.
Clausi continued to object to Rhodes re-hiring after the meeting, “I don’t know who the other two is and I don’t care. I’m only concerned about the person who sued the county and Judge Saylor, to bring her back, that’s a disgrace, what they’re doing to the taxpayer.”
Rhodes’ salary when she was fired in 2013 was $42,000.
