League of Women Voters civics education panel Tuesday night

LEWISBURG – With vibrant political discussions underway in our country, there is an opportunity for some factual, non-partisan education this week with the League of Women Voters of the Lewisburg Area. There will be a Civics Education-Hallmark of Democracy tomorrow 7 p.m. at the East Buffalo Township building in Lewisburg.

Panelists will be talking about how our state and federal executive branches operate. Facilitator and panelist, Stacy Richards, who’s also a member of the League of Women Voters, “We’ve been practicing it and realize that were covering the basics and hitting the things we think people will be interested in, in order to be able to have a very lively non-partisan discussion afterwards.”

Another panelist, Dr. Michelle DeMary, Associate Professor of Political Science at Susquehanna University, says it’s a complicated topic and it’s important for citizens to be educated, “It would be nice if people could be fully enough informed to be able to make a difference where they so choose. I’m not particularly concerned about what kind of difference they want to make, but they need to know how the system operates.”
