SUNBURY—At Monday night’s meeting Sunbury City Council ratified the sale of five properties the city had acquired through its Redevelopment Authority. The properties were sold at a public auction last Saturday. Solicitor for the Redevelopment Authority Michael Kula highlighted the plan one property.
“The purchaser did indicate that their plan was to build a single family home there, which is good news because that would be the newest house within city limits since a few years ago when the Redevelopment Authority did a property up at 202 Washington Avenue.”
The City of Sunbury Redevelopment Authority netted $60,500 from Saturday’s auctions. That money will go towards preventing property deterioration in the future.
“We’ve all been very fortunate here that purchasers of these properties bring them up to code and get them back on the tax rolls, which generates revenue for the city, plus makes it a nicer place to be.”
During audience comment a representative of the Daily Item asked the council if it would appeal a loss in its legal battle with the newspaper. Council members who did respond, including Persing, Eister, and Henry, said they would not.
At the end of the meeting Mayor Persing announced that the council held an executive session at 5:00 pm to discuss a “police issue.” (Kory Kramer)
