CBS’ McCausland: Proving War Crimes Extremely Difficult

WASHINGTON, D.C. – President Joe Biden is calling for the Russian President Vladimir Putin to be prosecuted for war crimes.

Proving those crimes can be difficult, so said CBS News Military Analyst Jeff McCausland, “The international criminal court will conduct an investigation and would have jurisdiction over people who committed these particular crimes. The question is of course, you have to prove exactly who did this on an individual level. That will take an enormous amount of time unfortunately.”

McCausland says there are still some circumstances that can help in the prosecution, “There’s mounting pressure, I think, on the international community, just how horrific this unnecessary, aggressive war prosecuted by the Russians is. Hopefully it’ll result in more counties coming out of line to support sanctions and other efforts against the Russians.”

McCausland is a retired US Army colonel, author and leadership and security consultant and he was on WKOK’s On The Mark program. He says it may help in the prosecution that some of the perpetrators of the alleged crimes could be a prisoners of war in the future.
