Candidate for state attorney general says office needs repair

RaffertyHARRISBURG – Whoever is elected as the next state attorney general has their work cut out for them.  So says candidate John Rafferty Jr., who is a senator in the 44th district.

Rafferty was a guest on WKOK’s On The Mark program and talked about the current state of the attorney general’s office, “We are seeing the office take a real tailspin.  Where it was bad news once a week, now its bad news just about every day.  It was necessary for somebody to step up and say I’m going to run for attorney general and I’m going to bring the integrity and responsibility back to the office of attorney general.”

Rafferty explained what they are dealing with in the aftermath of Attorney General Kathleen Kane’s tenure, “There have been a number of people who have left the office.  There’s been a number of people who are suffering from morale in the office right now, and we have to make sure that the first few months in office, we are reestablishing morale in that office, traveling around to all of the offices, letting them know here is our policy is in place and here is what we expect from you.  If you do your job and what is expected of you, I’ll back you.”

And Rafferty says he’s the right person for the job, “The attorney general’s office needs good management practice.  I have criminal experience, I have criminal experience and I have the legislative experience.”

Rafferty says he will only serve as attorney general for two terms if he’s selected and re-elected and says he has no interest in becoming Governor.  You can hear the complete interview with John Rafferty Jr. from WKOK’s On The Mark program online at www.wkok.com.  (Ali Stevens)
