Businesses Moving into Former Edison Elementary School

SUNBURY – The former Edison Elementary School in Sunbury is back in use. Ted Strosser of Strosser Baer Architects told WKOK Tuesday his business is hoping to move its offices into the second floor of the building by the end of the year.

In addition, already open is a new business launched by former city councilman Chris Reis and his wife – a youth ninja warrior gym. Strosser says that opened about three weeks ago while other work is finishing.

Strosser says the ongoing work is part of about a $600,000 renovation to the building. Strosser says his company purchased the former school for an undisclosed amount from Mark Walberg in February 2021 and always wanted to refurbish it.

He says funding for the project has been a combination of private money and historic tax credits from the federal and state level, as well as a $100,000 loan from the Northumberland County Redevelopment Authority.

Strosser says there is one more classroom available, but is unsure how that will be used. The school moved out of the building around the 1999-2000 school year.
