Bucknell’s Anderson reflects on his Bison career, signs with NFL’s Bears

LEWISBURG – Henry Hynoski, Julie’n Davenport, and now Abdullah Anderson. The Bucknell defensive lineman became the latest Valley football player to be signed by an NFL team. Anderson was signed by the Chicago Bears as an undrafted rookie free agent after the NFL Draft last weekend.

Anderson said as the draft was ending, he received a bunch of calls from teams but the Bears stood out to him the most, “The D-line (defensive line) coach called me and said, ‘Look, we think you’re an incredible player. We want you to come out here and we think you’re  perfect fit to not only make the practice squad, be an impact on the 53-man roster. When I heard that I thought that was my best chance.”

When reminiscing his Bucknell experience, Anderson says he’ll remember playing alongside some great teammates through the years, “Freshman year I played with Evan Byers, and throughout my last three years I played with Ben Richard and Mark Pyles, which they were amazing, all-league players too. And just having that bond as a defense and even with my defensive coaches, and being able to bump heads and talk football, and being able to go out there and play down-hill football.”

Anderson hopes to join is former Bucknell teammate Davenport as a full-time NFL player. Davenport currently plays for the Houston Texans after being drafted last year. Hynoski enjoyed a four-year NFL career, including winning Super Bowl XLVI (46) with the New York Giants.
