LEWISBURG — A reception was held last night to honor the Distinguished Citizen of the Year, awarded by the Susquehanna Council of the Boy Scouts of America. John Meckley of Milton was chosen as this year’s recipient and the reception was also a fundraiser, which raised $28,000 for the Boy Scouts.
Meckley spoke to a packed house who came out to see him honored, “I look around a room that is full of friends and mentors and people I respect very deeply. It gives my life great meaning and purpose to role up my sleeves and work with each of you on various projects that we do for various organizations that we volunteer for. You give my life meaning in many ways and i’m forever grateful for that.”
Meckley is an Eagle Scout and also a past president of the Susquehanna Council of the Boy Scouts of America. He currently serves on their board of directors and has earned the District Award of Merit and the Silver Beaver Award from the Susquehanna Council. Meckley says with the money raised at the event last night, more than 100 scouts will be able to take part in their programs.
