Borough to assist in home rehabilitation

FEAT_SELINSGROVE_BOROSELINSGROVE – Selinsgrove Borough Council is taking steps to help rehabilitate homes. The Selinsgrove Borough Council approved the CDBG disaster recovery grant guidelines at their meeting Monday night. The grant allows the borough to financially assist home owners whose homes were impacted by a flood.

Council President, Marvin Rudnitsky said, “The program is to help to mitigate the problems they have had from the 2011 flood and earlier floods where they have had repeated damage to their property. So, these are federal funds that help to raise the home, elevate it above the flood level, or to move the utilities that are in the flood way up higher out of the flood way. “

The eligibility for this program is based on income and a full inspection of the property. The Council adopted the guideline of $150,000 per property.

Rudnitsky said, “Our SEDA-COG representative says we can do three properties total. Now, that does not mean we are going to spend that much on each property and if we can spend less than there will be more for others who need it.”

Through this agreement the homeowner must reside in the home and cannot sell the house within five years after the rehabilitation. ( Sarah Benek)
