BLOOMSBURG – New security measures are in place this year at the Bloomsburg Fair. Bill Barrett, superintendent of police and parking, says the size of the venue makes security a challenge, “With the domestic violence and with terrorism, we have to take a better look at what we’re doing with security at a venue as big as ours.”
Barrett says security staff uses 50 cameras to see all areas of the fairground, “We have about 50 cameras that we man 24/7. That helps us with a lot of problems and we can see a lot of things that are going on the fairgrounds at all times.”
Vendors have been asked to help as well, “We’re handing out letters to all the vendors. There’s over 1,000 vendors. The letter is explaining and asking vendors to police their own area and let us know if there is anything left behind from a concession error, fair-goer, or something else. So, if all the vendors and fair-goers are on our side, we should have a good fair this year.”
Barrett told us there will be random bag checks on any given night. The Bloomsburg Fair runs through October 1. You can see a full list of events and attractions or buy tickets online at bloomsburgfair.com. (Alex Reichenbach)
